Seems ironic that I spoke of bad local news yesterday:
A local woman was walking her dog late in the evening at a remote location near here. Her dog ran up ahead of her, and returned with a human arm in it's mouth.
A search of the area recovered human skeletal remains and a bra.
The attention has turned to a woman who disappeared from Carson City on November 10 2003.
Her blood spattered son was found wandering in a parking lot in Dayton, Nevada the same day.
He said his "mommy was dead" and the blood on him matched his mother's.
After the news aired last night, I drove to the general area where this discovery was made, and it is no wonder how this could have gone undetected for so long. It's about 8 miles away from my home, in a very sandy area of the desert.
There was a mobile command post and about 6 ATVs in the area.
It gives me the heebie jeebies.

I left home about 8:30 this morning, and came back to a neatly mowed lawn. I have no idea who did it.... but it is appreciated :)
As I was eating dinner last night, I was watching an old tape called the "Missiles of October" and thinking about going online.
As I finished, the lights went out. The sky was dark but I had heard no thunder.
It just made it that much darker.
I guess about 90% of the county was without power.
It stayed that way until almost 9 PM. By that time it was so damn dark in the house I couldn't see my hand in my face. I retreated into my bedroom and went to bed somewhat early.
The power even now is fluctuating.
Good thing I knew that the Perseid Meteor Shower was happening. I have seen streaks of light and what appear to be explosions on the horizon. The dogs are howling all over town.
I'm anticipating some dummy to call the news services to ask if we are under attack by terrorists.
I am in the third day of my vacation, and the most I have done is pick my nose. Actually I took my daughter swimming yesterday. I like the indoor pool because I burn too easy.
The last time I had my shirt off in public somebody shot a harpoon at me. They thought they were shooting at a great white whale.
Just another boring day on the job....
We had a woman collapse in the store today. Maybe it was sticker shock.
I was checking and her daughter- maybe about 12 years old- came up to me and calmly asked "Can you help me?"
I said "yes"
She calmly says "My mom passed out, my grandmother is with her."
She was so calm it took me a minute to realize we had a serious situation.
They took her to the hospital, and I saw her return to the store as I left later in the day.
It must have been a slow day because we had 3 police cars with the ambulance in front of the store.
I woke up startled just before 2 AM thinking I had a bad dream. Turns out that we had an earthquake.
It was at 1:54 AM, centered on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. It was 4.5- somewhat strong, but not violent.
Nevada is the third most seismically active state, behind Alaska and California.
I could not believe it- I pick up an Rx, drive around the back of the pharmacy to leave and I hear a buzzing sound above the noise of the car engine.... I look out the window and realize I have driven into yet another swarm of bees. I don't know where in the hell they are coming from, but this is the second time in as many weeks a swarm has passed through town.
About 2:30 a HUGE swarm of bees descended on my place of employment. In less than an hour they built a nest about the size of a basketball.
I walked out into it, and heard this buzzing sound- then realized I was standing in a cloud of bees.
I didn't get stung :)
You know you're in a small town when the paper publishes 5 death notices, and you know 4 of them :(
Did you know in Nevada:
It is illegal to drive a camel on the highway.
It's still "legal" to hang someone for shooting your dog on your property.
For this and other stupid crap go visit:
