This is no figure of speech:

DALLAS -- A teacher is on paid administrative leave after sending a first-grader home with feces in his backpack because the boy went to the bathroom on the classroom floor.

The teacher apparently was frustrated with the 6-year-old student's actions so wrapped up the waste and sent it home with the boy Tuesday along with a note, Dallas school district spokesman Donald Claxton said.

Claxton declined to identify the teacher at Gabe P. Allen Elementary School.

"It generally appears the teacher was trying to help raise awareness with the family," Claxton said. "It's just an unfortunate incident. Unfortunately, she took this course of action."

Yeah, no shit sherlock!

That is disgusting. Most likely this child has some sort of medical problem and there is a good chance his parents are either unaware of the problem or critical. Very few parents understand encopresis, which is sounds as if this child most likely has. Teachers should know about this as they can be instrumental in providing a solution to the problem.

Really, this wasn't a solution and anyone with a wit of intelligence would understand that a far better plan would have been to clean up the mess, let the child know it was okay, even if it was embarassing, bring the child to the nurses office or the principles office and demand that the parents come for an interview to discuss the matter..

I agree 100% with Rachel Ann. Clearly the teacher was just pissed off and resentful. This is no way to treat a child at all. The teacher should be fired. This is inexcusable behavior. That poor child!! I would file a compaint if that were my child.
