A power pole burned somewhere and my power went out from 6:26-7:11 AM. They are estimating 3 hours for the power to be totally restored, but we have power already.
45 minutes is pretty good time around here to restore power.
The winds are finally blowing away my tumbleweeds. The mountains are catching hell. it's raining here at the 3460 foot level.
I usually hate wind, but I am hoping we get the winds forcasted for today, so they can blow my uprooted tubleweeds away. :)
The weather suddenly turned south on us. I opened my garage to go to work before 6 AM and was startled to see a wet driveway.
It is now past noon and only 56 degrees.
There is a snow advisory for eastern Nevada above 6000 feet. Somewhat unusual for September.
We had an earthquake at 4:02 PM. It measured 5.5 and was centered southwest of Hawthorne,Nevada. It rattled this area. I sure hope to hell it wasn't a precurser to a bigger quake.
All I can say is "Oh Shit!"
If Hurricane Ivan hits New Orleans, some estimates say the city could be under up to 20 feet of water.
Somebody tell me what type of moron would want a house in a city that is up to 7 feet below sea level on the Gulf Coast in a hurricane prone area?
Worse yet- what kind of dumbass would refuse to evacuate?
This looks like "The Perfect Storm."
Dry Weather + Winds + Dry Brush + one dumbass shooting a gun = one raging wildfire south of Reno threatening 350 homes and 7 destroyed ones.
Ash is falling where I live- 60 miles east of there.
We have some wild lightning and a Severe Storm heading our way- so not much blogging for me today :(
To my Florida readers- I hope all goes well for you with the Hurricanes headed your way. I have never been in one, but know a few who have.
Although I like weather and storms, these types I wouldn't want to mess with.
By the way- what did the hurricane say to the coconut tree?
"Hang on to your nuts! This won't be an ordinary blow job!"
They say it will be "warmer" this weekend ?
Ugh !
You know how you can tell it's too hot ?
It's too hot when ER's have an increase of male patients with scabs on their testicles from dragging them.
LOL.
We had two Severe Thunderstorm Warnings between 2 and 5 PM, and intermittent power failures.
I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw things blowing past the window horizontally.
Still smokey skies, 20 homes burned, 46 structures in all. Now 7100 acres. State of Emergency declared, now the damn thing is moving north into the notoriously windy Washoe Valley between Carson City and Reno.
I am in no danger, but I can smell the smoke.
I noticed the skies had an orange tint at sunrise today. Since that time a relatively small fire has exploded into a 2000 acre monster and burned 9 homes in Carson City.
They've called in heavy tankers and 300 homes are in danger.
It's early to say this- I know it will get hotter, but I am wondering what happened to Spring ?
Yesterday it was 91 (32C), the record was 95(35C).
Today it will be 92(33C)
Last week I had the cooler on- today I have the heater on.
It was so cold I saw a dog stuck to a fire hydrant. :P
It was cold a week ago- now it is 92 degrees F (33 celsius).... I had to fire up the AC.
Out of nowhere, about 9:20 this morning, the sky grew dark and the wind began blowing.
Sand and dust began flying, I told a co-worker watch the lights go out- and it did- as soon as I said that-lol.
The lights went out at 9:23 and came on at 11:09.
Many roads are closed in this area of Western Nevada.
I may not do alot of blogging, as it is quite windy now and may lose power again.
